Most jobs in the prison pay 25¢ an hour, and there are not enough jobs for all who seek them. This means our congregations are not self supporting. St. Dysmas depends on individual donations for ⅔ of our budgets and gifts from congregations and their auxiliaries (women’s and men’s groups, youth etc) for ⅓ of our budget.
St. Dysmas was established as a congregation of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) by PCA (Prison Congregations of America). We owe our existence to them. However, neither support St. Dysmas financially. PCA’s mission is to plant congregations, but once planted move on to plant another. The ELCA supports us in many ways, but not financially.

Prison Christmas Sacks
Each year St. Dysmas partners with other ministries, congregations and individuals in South Dakota and neighboring states to ensure those incarcerated in South Dakota receive a Christmas sack. The sacks are simple: Fudge, peanuts and hard candy. Yet, they are the only gift or many of the men will receive and are cherished and appreciated. This year the prison will not accept Christmas Cards in the sacks. If you would like to help please follow the accompanying directions. The prison rules are rigid in terms of what is accepted. We appreciate your partnership in ministry.
