Outside the Walls - Telling the Story
Jesus said, “for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick, and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:35-36 NRSV
St. Dysmas Lutheran Church’s ministry reaches outside of the walls in two very important ways. We invite people in congregations to support the ministry happening inside the walls by showing the men that they are not forgotten. One way to do this is by worshipping with the men inside the prison (Visit St. Dysmas). We also invite individuals and congregations to support the ministry with their financial gifts.
The ministry of St. Dysmas extends outside of the walls through our St. Dysmas Reentry program. We invite congregations to form Reentry Teams that walk with individuals for the first year after their release, mentoring them, being a listening ear, and helping them to re-establish themselves in the community. This truly is living out what Jesus said in Matthew 25.
