Most jobs in the prison pay 40¢ an hour, and there are not enough jobs for all who seek them. This means our congregations are not self supporting.

St. Dysmas is not contracted with the South Dakota Department of Corrections, and receives no funding from the state for our work. We are not supported by the South Dakota Synod as a specific budget item. We do not receive support from organizations like Lutheran Social Services or Prison Congregations of America. The ELCA supports us in many ways, but not financially. We exist because of you!

St. Dysmas depends on donations from individuals and families for ⅔ of our budget. Congregations and auxiliaries (women’s and men’s groups, youth, etc) make up the other ⅓ of our budget.
